The solace of open spaces, wild or mostly untended, as well as an interest in the built environment, inform my recent work. I often start in the studio by observing an object - a seed pod, leaves, a book, a map, and see where it takes me. Each work is an exploration or conversation. I am often surprised by what emerges. My hope is to reveal the unexpected.
Primarily a painter and printmaker, an ongoing focus has been on producing small edition artist prints and monotypes. Current work often contains references to botany, architecture, and the landscape.

Recently, I have started to explore the possiblities of encaustic painting. This ancient media, consisting of wax, resin and ground pigments, predates the invention of oil painting by almost 1000 years. Long considered an archaic medium, it has recently enjoyed a revival of practice among many contemporary artists. The encaustic medium creates a luminous quality unlike any other. I am imbedding fragments of monotypes and natural materials into the wax, layer upon layer, which is applied in a molten state and fused with heat tools.
