Redwood
City, CA - Twinkling lights on the porch, glowing antique floors
and lots of Victorian details create a setting for Very Merry
Art at Main and the work of The Main Gallery artists. Contemporary
art at affordable prices mixed with fine craft provides something
unique for everyone. Hand-painted silk scarves, lavender sachets and one of a kind evening bags by Linda Gass were made using an ancient Japanese technique of wax resist dyeing called Roketsu-zome. The process dates back to 710 AD and was used to add patterning to kimono silks. Layers of silk dyes and special smooth wax are applied with a brush to create the designs. Print stands overflow with original photography: hand colored, holga images, landscapes, nudes and digitally manipulated images. Paintings include Audrey Guerin's small lyrical landscapes, inspired by the California scene, are joyful mixed-media florals. From cards to paintings, the gallery's six rooms offer a stimulating one-of-a-kind experience. The Main Gallery is located at 1018 Main Street on the first floor of the 1857 John Offerman House across from the new Redwood City Plaza. Hours are 11 to 4 Wednesday to Friday and 10 to 3 Saturday and Sunday. 650-701-1018. www.themaingallery.org. |
