If Wishes Were Horses explores the close and complex bond between horses and humans in painting, prints, drawing and sculpture by artists Ellen Chong, Debora Crosby, Katinka Hartzmetz, Nina Koepcke, Terri Wilson Moore and Susan Wolf. As muse and metaphor or symbols of war, power and privilege the horse has, through out time, inspired countless numbers of artists. Through early and persistent exposure to fairy tales, nursery rhymes and assorted myths our relationship with horses takes on an archetypal quality. Whether imagining a knight in shiny armor, a dusty cowboy or a fairytale princess, it is hard to imagine a hero without also imagining a horse.

The horses in The Main Gallery show are imaginative, powerful and full of spirit. One needn’t be a horse lover to love the horses in this show.
